The Price Family Education Endowment at the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance supports experiential learning programs for students attending Title 1 schools (schools with high concentration of low-income students) in the County of San Diego, with preference given to the San Diego Unified School District.  Currently, the endowment funds are supporting the San Diego Zoo’s Sensational Scientists Program to inspire 4th grade students to learn about, observe, and document the various ways wildlife use their senses to navigate and understand their world.

Zoo educators, Dr. Zoolittle, and wildlife ambassadors engage students through hands-on activities in a classroom program, Zoo field trip, and virtual classroom visit. Throughout all program components, students explore how plants and animals experience the world through their senses, and how their sensory structures help them to accomplish many key aspects of survival.

Students discover what a watershed is and how their daily actions affect the health of watersheds. They are encouraged to become stewards of their local watershed by participating in experiential activities.  The program serves at least 65 schools each year.
